Sleep deprivation, combined with many nights in an editing studio at 2AM resulted in a collaboration between a very creative colleague and myself that brought to life the story of Girl Jen Extraordinaire and her adventures saving the world from Cheap and Evil Girl.
By the time we completed the “saga”, Girl Jen, while loved, eventually retired to St. Tropez, but Cheap and Evil lived on.
And I have to say, while Girl Jen embodied all that one could perceive as “what we should be”, I have a soft spot for Cheap and Evil, because she embodied everything we wanted to be – outspoken, passionate in her beliefs, loyal to her followers (and those she admired), and yeah, a little sassy. At the end of it all, we realized Cheap and Evil wasn’t cheap (not by a long shot, with the spending habits we gave her) and although she was definitely “a whole lotta evil” it was evil brought on by the boredom of being surrounded by status quo. She just wanted to shake things up a bit. Make people think and not just follow the party line or deliver the “expected”. Put Cheap and Evil in a challenging situation and she always rose to the occasion and was actually damn good.
And me? After a brief secret life on Wall Street, I entered the world of advertising and have yet to leave. I am excited about what we have achieved over the last 10 years because of edge technology has provided for us, and I think the next 10 years are going to blow our minds – IF we aren’t afraid to embrace it.
And unfortunately, too many people are afraid. So I decided it was time to channel a little bit of Cheap and Evil, bring her back to life and give status quo a solid kick in the ass.
