Until recently, the fashion industry, specifically high-end luxury brands, have been slow on the uptake. But over the last year or so, there has been an increased focus in the space on bringing together our digital and “real” world. Burberry launched artofthetrench.com in November 2009 and by mid-January 2010 reported 5 million visitors and an impressive increase in sales.  Last week (it already seems so long ago), Ralph Lauren literally stopped traffic with a spectacular outdoor 4D video projected against the E.72nd street store, which was celebrating it’s 10th anniversary. Now Hermès has it’s fingerboard skating video inundating the web.

Expensive, high-tech one-night stands? Doubtful.  As mentioned, Burberry has been seeing an uplift in sales, Ralph Lauren is no stranger to technology, redefining the idea of “window shopping” with the interactive window repeatedly since 2006.

In such a high-touch sector (literally), it’s exciting to see brands not only embracing technology, but also creating engaging and useful experiences for the consumer.

(C’mon Louboutin, I know you are next)
